Prior to Kayak, travel search was fragmented and complex. Kayak turned the model on its head, offering a centralized space to quickly compare options across multiple airlines and hotel websites. With its forward design and product thinking, Kayak put customers back in control of their booking experience. Today, the company’s desktop and mobile properties support millions of consumers and business travelers worldwide.
Accel led Kayak's Series C fundraising in May 2006. Harry Nelis joined Kayak founders Paul English and Steve Hafner on the Kayak board. Accel participated in additional follow-on funding rounds before Kayak went public in July 2012. Five months later, Priceline acquired Kayak for $1.8 billion.
