What's the most impactful piece of advice you've received?
My grandma taught me that the brave choice is almost always the right one. It usually asks more of you: more honesty, more integrity, more grit. But it’s the path that opens the most doors. It's also the one that leads to real growth, unexpected surprises, and the stories worth retelling.
What's your favorite invention or innovation?
The printing press is my favorite invention, hands down. Gutenberg shows up and suddenly you’ve got ideas spreading like wildfire, and people questioning everything from kings to the cosmos. It meant people could share news, connect with the past, and speak to the future. It lit the spark for every other big idea that’s come since.
What was your first job?
I was a lifeguard and swim teacher in high school. My mantra was, “A dry lifeguard is a good lifeguard,” meaning if I was doing my job right, I didn’t have to jump in. Some kids would walk in, see I was on duty, and glance at the slide, already rethinking whatever antics they had planned. I haven’t had a job since that let me walk around with a whistle, but I’m still pretty good at spotting trouble early on.
