Flipkart

Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal (no relation) founded Flipkart in 2007 with a vision of bringing modern retail to the burgeoning Indian middle class. Initially selling books online, the company now offers a broad catalog of goods, as well as operating its own national logistics centers and delivery fleets, ensuring a high-quality, end-to-end experience for any shopper.

In 2009, Accel led the first-ever investment in Flipkart, when Sachin and Binny were running the business out of their apartment. We participated in every subsequent financing round, and after reshaping the domestic consumer retail market in India in under 10 years, Flipkart was acquired (majority stake) by Walmart in 2018.

"[Sachin and I] had similar ideas about how to build a company but very different skills. I think that worked out very well for us."
