Our investment in Tolmo: AI security agents with production context

Written by:Casey Aylward

Most security tools were built for a world where developers were the primary authors of code.

But as coding agents generate and ship more software, they're dramatically expanding the surface area for vulnerabilities while making them harder to trace, understand, and fix.

More software is being generated, attackers have better tools, and security teams are operating in an environment that looks very different from the one most security products were built for.

We're also seeing companies think about security much earlier than ever before. What was once a concern reserved for larger organizations is increasingly becoming a requirement for startups. As models become more capable and agents gain access to production systems, the cost of getting security wrong continues to rise.

We met the founders of Tolmo – Pierre Betouin, JB Aviat, Vlad de Turckheim, and Arnaud Breton – while they were thinking through these changes and were deeply impressed by their security expertise and how well they worked together.

Prior to founding Tolmo, Pierre and JB co-founded Sqreen and worked closely with Vlad and Arnaud. At Sqreen, they tackled some of the hardest problems in application security, building one of the few security products that both security teams and developers genuinely loved. Sqreen's approach was thoughtful, developer-friendly, and ahead of its time.

That experience shaped how they're approaching Tolmo.

Rather than starting with alerts, Tolmo is building a Production Knowledge Graph that links code, infrastructure, deployments, and production telemetry into a unified model of the production environment. That context allows security agents to reason about entire systems instead of isolated events, helping teams understand, investigate, and resolve issues with far greater accuracy. If AI coding agents become the primary builders of software, AI security agents will become the primary defenders.

Today, Tolmo is coming out of stealth with a seed round led by Accel, with participation from Y Combinator.

We're excited to partner with Pierre, JB, Vlad, Arnaud, and the entire Tolmo team as they help redefine security for modern development.
