Congratulations to Amagi on its IPO

When Amagi’s journey began 18 years ago, the video world looked very different. Streaming was still in its infancy: Netflix mailed DVDs to homes, global smartphone adoption was limited (tablets were rarer still), and most people spent only a few minutes a day watching video online. Even then, Baskar, Srini, and Srividhya believed a major shift was coming.
The founders and the Amagi team imagined a world where streaming would become the primary way people watched movies, shows, and live events. What started as an India focused advertising geo-location business for cable TV, Amagi pivoted into a global infrastructure software business that would power the streaming revolution. Amagi built ahead of the platforms fully shifting; they didn’t know when their envisioned future would arrive, but believed that it would.
So, the team focused on software that would make large-scale streaming possible: tools for creating channels, delivering content across devices, understanding audiences, and generating revenue. As content owners adopted these tools, they learned how to run streaming businesses efficiently. Viewers followed, moving online as content did.
This has translated into category leadership which has driven Amagi today to an important milestone, with its IPO. What once felt like a distant possibility is now the norm: cloud-based streaming has become the dominant way people consume video around the world. As Amagi’s market has matured, the customer base that was once defined by hobbyist content like Horse and Country TV has now broadened to household names. Amagi now supports 400+ customers globally, powering everything from daily cooking shows to major events like the Olympics and the Emmys.

Amagi’s growth is also a study in building a truly global company, reinforcing Accel’s belief that great companies can be built anywhere. Founded in Bangalore, the team now spans more than a dozen countries, drawing on talent and perspective from India, the US, and Europe to serve customers across more than 40 markets. At Accel, we’ve been proud to support Amagi through a cross-border partnership involving both our India and US teams.
While it may seem counterintuitive to say an 18-year-old company is just getting started, the opportunity ahead may be even larger than what’s behind. Much of the media industry is still early in its transition. Many content owners are only beginning to modernize how they distribute and monetize video and with AI, their transformation is set to be even more pronounced. Amagi continues to be the provider of choice for this shift, and at Accel, we’re proud to continue partnering with the team as the next chapter of this story unfolds.
Great companies aren't built alone.
